DEPARTMENT OF BASIC SCIENCE

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The Department of Physics started in the academic year 2001 and is handling Applied Physics (theory & practical) for classes of I & II semester Engineering (all branches). The department has a well equipped lab with latest instruments to conduct the experiments as prescribed by VTU. The department routinely conducts faculty development programs in relevant areas to enhance and upgrade knowledge in subject matter.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry started in the academic year 2001 and is handling Applied Chemistry (theory & practical) for classes of I & II semester Engineering (all branches). The department has a well equipped lab with latest instruments to conduct the experiments as prescribed by VTU. The curriculum integrates core of chemistry with a body of engineering in a manner that allows chemical knowledge to be put into practice.

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMAICS

The Department of Mathematics started in the academic year 2001 and is handling Math subjects for classes of I, II, III & IV semester engineering (all branches). The department conducts courses on Engineering Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics, Graph Theory and Combinatorics, Numerical Methods and Linear Algebra for UG and PG classes. Bridge courses are conducted for Diploma Students to bring them up to speed with the subject.

The department regularly conducts workshops and faculty development programs to enhance the knowledge pertaining to applications of Mathematics and provide major thrust and motivation to students and faculty.

DEPARTMENT OF HUMANITIES

The department of Humanities was established in the year 2001 at CIT with an aim to develop responsible citizenship among students by cultivating values, morals and ethics in the engineering studies. The department of humanities blends itself with all engineering disciplines to make students shoulder this country in the task of national development. Mr. Vijaya Prakash H B, Associate Professor in the department is taking care of the NSS activities in the Institution.

Activities:

For the new batch of Engineering students who joined CIT in 2017, an Orientation Program was organized 15th and 16th of September, 2017 at CIT Campus. Dr. Shantala C P, Vice Principaland Head-CSE, CIT, Gubbi and Dr. Prasanna Kumar T M, HOD, MBA, CIT-Gubbi conducted a softskills training programme and offered useful insights to the students on behavioural skills andleadership qualities and explained how one can forge ahead and establish himself in a rapidlygrowing technical industry by honing soft skills through beautiful illustrations and activities.The audio visual presentation grabbed the entire attention of students. Students expressedtheir gratitude towards the programme. The overall programme saw a grand success.

A Bridge Course in Mathematics and Fundamentals of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of First Year Students

A Bridge course in Mathematics and Fundamentals of Electronics and Electrical Engineering and Chemistry was organized from 10th August to 14th August, 2017 for newly joined first semester students of the academic year 2017-18 at CIT campus. The Mathematical aptitude test CIT-MAT was conducted before the commencement of the programme to identify students’ knowledge on the fundamentals of Mathematics. The courses were developed much painstakingly to homogenize the students who came from diverse socio economic backgrounds and make them comprehend over by developing an appreciation towards subjects taught in the Engineering. Experienced senior faculty members from the Departments of Mathematics, Electronics and Electrical Engineering conducted the classes. Basic Science Department looked after the supervision of the programme. Students at the end expressed their gratitude towards the programme. The entire programme witnessed a grand success.

Inauguration of First year B E classes was held at CIT campus premises on 19th August, 2017. Mr. Arunakar Mishra, MD & CEO of Genser Aerospace & IT Pvt. Ltd., graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Mr. Umashanker, CEO of isteer Technologies, Bangalore and Dr. Divyananda, Dean, Industry Institution Interaction, SIT, Tumkur were the Guests of Honour.

The second Parent-Teacher Meeting was organized in the premises of CIT on 20th May, 2017.On the arrival to the meeting; parents were issued with information regarding the teachers and subjects of their wards. The student progress cards were also issued at the time of registration.

  Meeting started sharply at 10.30 AM after the completion of the registration process. Students’ performance analyses in the internal examinations, was presented by Dr. Shivaprakash MC, HOD of Basic Science. During the presentation, he explained how good attendance ensures better performance by establishing positive correlation between performances of students in internal tests with their attendance. Head of the Chemistry department Dr. Umesh Laddi and Head of the Mathematics department Dr. Shambhulingaiah answered the questions raised by students during the meeting and gave inputs for increasing learning competency of students.

  The meeting also provided a common platform for both parents and teachers to interact each other about the academic progress and behavior of students in classes. The parents expressed their gratitude about the facilities provided by the Institution for the development of students during the occasion and assured of taking keen interest towards preparations of their wards for the upcoming semester examinations.

The program was compeered by HOD of Basic Science Dr. Shivaprakash M C .The meeting saw an end at 1.30 PM with the vote of thanks by the Master of ceremonies.

A Parent-Teacher meeting was organized for 2016-17 batch students at CIT campus on 24th September, 2017 as part of the holistic initiative of the college to make parents, stakeholders in the academic progress of their children. Over 125 parents attended the meeting.

The Director Dr. Suresh D S presided the meeting. The heads of various departments were present during the meeting. The Director Dr. Suresh in his talk gave a presentation about the Institution. He spoke about the state of the art facilities available with the Institute for the all round development of students. He further delineated about the growth of the Institution over the years since its inception to till date and also the commitment of college towards infusing a great deal of professionalism in the budding engineers and future technocrats of this Nation. He also mentioned about the various accolades and appreciations received by the Institute in various domains from competent authorities such as UGC and AICTE. Head of the Mechanical Engineering department and Dean (Administration) Prof. Giridhar Kulkarni answered the questions raised by parents on various aspects.

The meeting also provided a common platform for both parents and teachers to interact each other about the academic progress and behavior of students in classes. The parents expressed their gratitude about the facilities provided by the Institution for the development of students during the occasion.  The program was compeered by HOD of Basic Science Dr. Shivaprakash.

 

For the new batch of Engineering students who joined CIT in 2016, a 5 day Orientation Program was organized during 1st to 6th of August 2016. Dr. Suresh D S, Director and Principal, CIT- Gubbi and Dr. Shantala C P, Vice Principal and Head-CSE, CIT, Gubbi inaugurated the Orientation Program.

Department of Basic Science, CIT, Gubbi managed the overall supervision of the program. The orientation program had two components viz. Soft skills and a bridge course on Basics of Mathematics.

Faculty members from department of Mathematics handled the bridge course. Dr. C R Pradeep, Professor, Department of Mathematics gave various useful insights to students. Soft skills sessions were handled by Dr. Shantala C P, Vice Principal, CIT-Gubbi and Dr. Prasanna Kumar T M, HOD, MBA, CIT-Gubbi. In one session,  Shri. Adoor Krishna Rao, a retired bank official and a well known consumer activist spoke on academic integrity. Overall program was a grand success

 Educational Visit:

The Department of Basic Science organized a one-day Education visit to the Indian Institute of Science on 4th March, 2017on the Occasion of the IISc Open Day Celebration for second-semester students in order to motivate students to pursue their course with utmost interest. The program gave an opportunity for the students to take a closer look at the high-end technologies being developed by the nation’s esteemed Institute of Excellence IISc.Around eighty meritorious students studying in the 2ndsemester along with the faculty members attended the program with a great deal of enthusiasm and spirit. Meantime students had an interaction with distinguished Scientist Prof. Prveen C Ramamurthy from the Materials Engineering Department of IISc.

 

Academic Year 2015-16:

Dr. O P Goel, General Manager-CSR and Head – Bosch Vocational Training, Bangalore, addressed the 1st semester students of CIT on 22nd August, 2015. Addressing the gathering on the occasion of welcome function of 15th batch of Engineering, 3rd batch of Diploma and 6th batch of PG students, Dr. O P Goel stressed on the importance of the vocational training.

The welcome function was presided by Sri. G S Basavaraju, Chairman, CIT Group of Institutions, Dr. O P Goel, General Manager-CSR & Head-Bosch Vocational Training, Bangalore was invited as Chief Guest and Dr. Anand K Joshi was present as Guest of Honour. Sri. G B Jyothi Ganesh, Managing Director and Dr. Suresh Kumar D S, Director and Principal, CIT, Gubbi, Prof. Shantala C P, Vice Principal, CIT, Gubbi were present in the function.

In the function, students with good academic achievements were honored with cash prize and certificate. Also students selected under CIT-CAT for pursuing free engineering education in CIT were given certificates.

 

Academic Year 2014-15:

Welcome function of 14th Batch Engineering students was held at CIT campus premises on 6th September, 2014. Commander Dr.Vijay Singh, Joint Director, Naval Research Board, DRDO, New Delhi and Dr. S Rajashekharaiah, Founder Vice Chancellor-VTU, Belgaum & Director, Chameli Devi Group of Institutions, Indore graced the occasion Guests and delivered expert talk to students.
