Blockchain & IoT (6 Days AICTE-ISTE Refresher Programme)

The Computer Science & Engineering Department of CIT organized 6 days AICTE-ISTE sponsored Refresher Program on Blockchain & IoT in order to cater the industry needs, provide a platform for learning the advancements and to guide the researchers in the area of Blockchain & IoT. In recent times, Blockchain & IoT technology is considered to be one of the most popular catchphrases. In order to do innovative research work, projects, and build a knowledge base, it is therefore necessary to raise awareness among researchers and academicians to train in Blockchain & IoT Field.

Session-1 aptly commenced with a brief introduction to blockchain and IoT technologies with use cases by Mr. Shivakumar Mathapathi, Chief Technology Officer, Xtrans Solutions LLC, California, US.

Session-2 Dr. Swaroop Kalasapur from Schlumberger, San Jose, California, US has spoken on adopting decentralization techniques in IoT applications, evolution of IoT in the Energy Industry, use of blockchain in IoT applications. He has given blockchain and IoT industry use cases like emission tracking, Edge vision, Logistics operation, Edge VisionLedger assisted logistics. He ended with when and when not to use blockchain in IoT applications. This session is followed by K8S, IoT and Blockchain session from Dr. Sridhar K N Rao, Solutions Architect, Spirent Communications, Bangalore. The takeaway message from his session is “Kubernetes is becoming a must in implementing IoT and Blockchain Solutions – it helps to know and get comfortable with it”.

Session-3 the post lunch session was taken by Dr. Pradeep C R and Prof. Sharayu Pradeep, Professors from Department of Maths, CIT, Gubbi. The session was on Cryptographic Hash Functions and Elliptic curve cryptography. In this session speaker discussed on Importance and usage Hash Functions & Elliptic curve cryptography in the field of Blockchain.

Session-4 The session 4 was taken by Mr. Suresh D, Senior Manager, Renesas Electronics India pvt ltd, Bangalore on IoT applications & potential. In this session Mr. Suresh discussed from basics of IoT to consumer IoT products and services namely Helmet Concussion Sensor, Medical Alert Watch, Smart Fitness Clothing and Smart Running Shoes, One button product purchase, Garden Sensor and Smart Televisions.

Session-5 The session 5 was taken by Mr. Preetham M N CEO and Co-founder Adviken Labs, Bangalore. The session was on IoT Gateway. In this session speaker discussed about IoT Reference model, Typical IoT setup, IoT Ecosystem, IoT Connectivity, Threats in IoT and also highlighted the use of Edge Computing in IoT. He ended his session with the detailed explanation on role of IoT Gateway, its hardware & software, per silo integration & platform-based integration.

Session-6 The post lunch session was taken by Mrs. B R Sujatha, Head Delivery TCS, Bangalore. This session was on Security of IoT devices. In this session speaker discussed about IoT Ecosystem Security, Threats of Cyber-attacks, standards like IEC 62443 and Certification agencies, The day ended with daily test, conducted on the topics discussed in different sessions of the day

Session-7 was taken by Bharath Kumar Allam Principal Engineer Xtrans Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore on Introduction of IoT and Use cases and Demos. In this session Mr. Bharath discussed hardware platforms, protocols related to IoT. The session ended with real time demo of IoT enabled COVID 19 vaccination logistics.

Session-8 was taken by Mr. Kiran Kumar H M Program Director Mindtree, Bangalore. The session was on IoT Industry Overview. In this session speaker discussed about IoT industry needs, platforms & solutions used in industry followed by higher level case studies. He ended his session with the brief overview on smart city project, IoT devices needed to deploy & integration of systems.

In this session Mr. Krishan discussed use cases on supply chain logistics, automotive industry, agri-food supply chain, smart vehicle monitoring system, environmental monitoring. He also demonstrated development environment of both IoT & Blockchain.

In this session speaker discussed about Implementation of NEP 2020, Evolution of Education Policy in India, Background of formation, outcomes of NEP 2020.

In this session speaker discussed about payment rails, blockchain properties suitable for financial applications, lightning network, Ethereum, unresolved issues. This session is followed by Dr. Bhavana Prasad, MBBS, DNB(Psychiatry) Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, SIMSRH, Tumkur, delivered talk on Stress Management. The day ended with daily test, conducted on the topics discussed in different sessions of the day

Session-16 The session 16 was taken by Dr. Vinayaka Pandit, Senior Manager and Strategist IBM Research India. In this session Mr. Pandit discussed problems that blockchain technology aims to solve. He also gave the overview of key components of Blockchain technology.

In this session speaker discussed Healthcare system, medical sensors like Infrared Temperature sensor, MLX30102 Pulse Oximeter, Body temperature sensor, ECG sensor, Galvonic Skin Response, Thermal Camera. He also focused on mHealth, Virtual Network Connect development environment. He demonstrated some applications.
