DEPARTMENT OF Master of Business Administration (MBA)


The Department of Master of Business Administration (MBA) was established in the year 2010 with an annual intake of 60 students. The MBA program is a two year full time course spread over four semesters. The program is duly approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to Visvevaraya Technological University, Belgaum. The course offers specializations in Marketing, Finance & Human Resource.  

The MBA program aims at providing inputs to the students relevant to the business, industry and trade so that they can efficiently & effectively function in different organization and face the challenges arising as a sequel to all round development of the country.

Top priority is accorded here towards the creation of management graduates with strong fundamentals and firm basics of management. The curriculum that is followed has a balanced blend of practical and theory. Along with the prescribed syllabus, industrial visits, seminars, guest lectures, case studies and mini-projects are undertaken on a regular basis. Besides CIT faculty, a team of highly specialized resource persons are associated with the program.


To become renowned centre of excellence in business management education and thereby support development of business ecosystem particularly in rural & up-country geography.


To promote learner centric education system and develop highly adaptable business management professionals & entrepreneurs who create value for their organizations and society.

The department has been very active since its inception in 2010. Given below are few major Initiatives from the department

  • Grassroots studies


The Department has facilitated / supported grassroots studies undertaken by students of Welingkar Institute, Bangalore since 2012 and also by students of CMR University since 2016.


  • Major outbound studies

    The Department undertook a study titled “A Study on Solar Photo Voltaic Based Rural Electrification – With Special Reference to Anupanahalli Village, Tumkur” in 2013. The outcome of the study was shared with concerned stakeholders.


      The Department conducted a study on “35th Annual State Level Krishi Mela” organized by SKDRDP, Dharmasthala at Tiptur from 5- 7, Feb 2015.

        The department undertook a comprehensive study on “Workforce Availability Analysis – for new HAL unit being setup at Bidrehallikaval, Gubbi Taluk”. Along with extract of the Interview, a detailed report was published in Bangalore Mirror as a series on three consecutive days


        • Major outbound studies


        The Department of MBA, CIT, Gubbi celebrated National Energy Conservation Day on 14th Dec 2010 by organizing “Awareness Camp on Energy Conservation” in two schools i.e. Bhoomi Public School and Priya School located in Gubbi town. Many activities/competitions were conducted for the school children in both the schools and prizes were distributed for the winners.


        The Department conducted one day Green Deepavali Campaign in the campus on 9, Nov 2015.


          MBA Department celebrated World Nature Day on Oct 3, 2016.


          • Collaborative programs


            MBA Department in association with IIPA, New Delhi and CREAT, Bangalore organized one day seminar on “Consumer Protection – Emerging Issues” in CIT campus on 10th May 2013. The guests / resource Persons for the event were (1) Shri. S.Ramanathan ( Retd. IAS Officer) , IIPA, Karnataka Branch (2) Prof. Suresh Misra, CCS, IIPA, New Delhi  (3) Mr.Y G Muralidharan, CREAT, B’lore (4) Dr. Mamta Pathania, CCS, IIPA, New Delhi.


              MBA Department in association with Karnataka Electricity Governance Network [KEGN], Bangalore (a wing of CREAT, Bangalore) and BESCOM, Bangalore organized “Electricity Consumers Awareness Program” on Dec 2, 2013 (Monday) at Vigneshwara Comforts, Tumkur.  The basic objective of this program was to make consumers aware of their rights and responsibilities in the electricity sector. The guests for the Inaugural function: Director, CIT, Gubbi Dr. Suresh.D S ; Founder Trustee of CREAT, Bangalore Mr.Y.G Muralidharan ; Former Technical Consultant to Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) Mr. Lakshman Reddy ; Executive Engineer at BESCOM, Tumkur Mr.Nataraj and Mr.Sheshedri of Maruthi Vidya Kendra, Tumkur


                MBA Department in association with Life & Money, Mumbai organized a campaign on “Financial Wellness for Women” from 20th to 27th Jan 2016 .







Faculty Achivements:

•T.M Prasanna Kumar, Associate Professor in association with State Government (GoK) Macheneries  like DPAR, Dept. of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs etc has participated in various workshops, seminars , roundtable as resource person.
•T.M Prasanna Kumar, Associate Professor has been closely working with CCA, IIPA, Bangalore and various NGOs in Karnataka in strengthing consumer movement.
•T.M Prasanna Kumar, Associate Professor is a Chief Mentor of two start-up companies which are into Skill Development Space.
•Mr.Praveen Kumar.T.M, A.P and Mr.Nagendra.R, A.P have cleared Karnataka State Level Eligibity Test (SLET).
•Mr.Nagendra.R, A.P has co-authored a text book on "Soft Skills".
Ms.Swathi.J has received Certificate of Achievement from Macquarie University, Australia  for successfully completing a course on “Financial Literacy”  and she is instrumental in establishing “Quality Circle” in the college

Student Achivements:

•Ms.Chithra T R (2013-15 Batch) secured  VTU 1st Rank in MBA and collected 4 GOLD Medals during 15th VTU Annual Convocation held at VTU, Belgaum on 27th May 2016.



•Ms.Chithra T R (2013-15 Batch) has represented VTU in "All India Inter University Netball Champoinship" held at Annamalai University, TN during 2014-15. She has also participated in various district, state and national level Netball tournaments and have won many prizes.   


•Students have participated in various management fests and have won many prizes.


•Students under the guidance of faculty members have undertaken various research studies / outreach activities. 


    • Skill Development Course under Pradhan  Manthri Koushal Vikas Yojana(PMKVY)

        Under the aegis of CIT-PMKVY Skill Centre MBA Department has been offering the following PMKVY course since 2016


        The first batch of students has completed the final assessment during Sep 2017.


        • Skill Development through formal MoU with Business Toys, Bangalore


        The MBA Department has MoU with Business Toys, Bangalore for Skilling activities. Through this association 6 days of workshop on “Excel for Business Analytics” was organized for CIT MBA students from 20th – 28th March 2017.
