Electrical Engineering deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. The field first became an identifiable occupation in the late 19th century after commercialization of the electric telegraph and electrical power supply. It now covers a range of subtopics including  power electronics, control systems, signal processing and telecommunication.

In CIT, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering started in the year 2004 with an annual intake of 60 students. Currently, the department offers B.E., degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The Department has traditional and modern laboratories such as Machines Lab, Power System Simulation Lab, High Voltage Lab, Relay Lab, Circuits and simulation Lab, Microcontroller Lab, Control System Lab.


The department routinely hosts technical talks by leading industry experts and academicians. Prof. Rajesh Sundareshan of IISc Bangalore has delivered a lecture on “Control Code Errors”. The department in association with KCTU, Government of Karnataka and DIC, Tumkur conducted a one-day workshop on renewable energy sources.

Industrial visit to Sharavathi and Varahi Hydro Power Plant on 1st Oct 2014 with final year EEE students.

Educational visit to 220kV substation in Nittur on 21st Feb 2015 with VI Semester EEE students.

Annual industrial visits are arranged for the students to imbibe practical knowledge on the subject. In the recent past, the EEE students have visited Bellary Thermal Power station and Karnataka Vidyuth Karkhane Limited.

EEE students are part of the “SPARK” club which has been initiated by the department to motivate the students to apply theoretical knowledge to design and develop hobby projects.

The department also conducts VTP programs in the areas of

  • Electrical Wiring for Buildings
  • Battery Maintenance
  • Basic Electrical Lab


Recent Activities:


Industrial visit on12th April 2017:


To enhance the practical knowledge of the students and also to update the students for recent technologies in the industry the department has organized a Industrial Visit to Antharasana Hally (220kV/66kV/11kV) Receiving Station, Power Grid Station  (765kV/400KV/220KV) and Toshiba and Mitsubishi Electric (TMEIC) , AC machines manufacturing unit.




    • To create awareness among students about various technologies used in Industries
    • To explore the knowledge about recent ongoing advances in the industries.
    • To have the wide knowledge about recent developments taken in Industries.
    • To understand the function of a substation for load distribution.



    1. Students have learnt a lot by actively involving in the visit.
    2. Students learnt about different types of Transmission lines, Switchgears etc.
    3. Students gain the knowledge about how a substation works.
    4. Students learnt and observed how Transformers and motors are manufactured in the factory.
    5. They have been exposed to different types of windings of Transformers and Motors.

The department has well equipped state-of-the-art electrical machines like Induction motors, DC Motors, Synchronous motors and Transformers, AC and DC servo motor, syncro pair system. The department has well developed Analog Electronics, Microcontroller, Logic Design and Power electronics lab. High Voltage lab is equipped with 100KVA transformer and all relay testing kits. The department maintains a Computer Lab with high configuration computers, MATLAB software package, Simulation Software package, MIPOWER software package for study and analysis of large power systems.

One of our final year project titled "Plan distribution system for protection of transformer using PLC" by Dayananda S.K, Harshavardhan C.R, Sharath A.M and Shivaraju T has been sponsored by Karnataka State Council of Science and Technology(KSCST), IISc Bangalore - 12 and has been selected for final round of project exhibition which will be held at Sahyadri college of engineering and management in Mangalore Dated 20 and 21 Aug 2015.

The department in association with KREDL, Government of Karnataka and MNRE, Government of India has setup

  • Solar Energy Park in the campus exclusively for demonstration purpose and for creating the awareness about renewable energy among the local community.
  • 8 KW Photovoltaic power generation project has been successfully implemented in the campus.
  • Akshayurja club to sensitize students about renewable energies.
  • VGST, Government of Karnataka, grants sanction of Rs 40 lakhs under the scheme of Karnataka Fund for Infrastructure Strengthening in Science and Technology (K-FIST- Level-II) to Dr D S Suresh and his team to implement a project titled, “Modernization of Power System Simulation, Relay and High Voltage Lab”.

Sharath D N  of EEE department  secured 6th rank in VTU.
Two of  our final year(2015-2016)students  project tilted :
